John was approached by George Jacobs to assist in creating a concept for a proposed up-scale coffee shop in downtown Midland. George imagined a cafe with artists working in mini-studios right in the coffee shop.

Inspiration came from the local timber industry of the 19th century and the use of wood/trees as a renewable resource.
