In December of 2010, Good Design Group’s southeastern Michigan office relocated to Ypsilanti. In an effort to get to know some of her neighbors, Jen attended a neighborhood association meeting. One glass of wine and 2 cookies later, she found herself on the board, and took on the project of a re-designing a logo.
As a volunteer effort, Jen designed a suite of logos for use on various publications and promotions for the Normal Park Neighborhood Association (NPNA). Known for its adorable tree-lined streets and friendly neighbors, the NPNA board selected a group of logo options and colors that they felt best represented their community.

Ask What You Can Do for Your Exhibit
After Jen’s successful design for the Ghost Army Exhibit at the Hatcher Graduate Library on the campus of the University of Michigan, Good Design Group was invited to design the temporary exhibit celebrating the 50th Anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s speech inspiring the creation of the Peace Corps. We were lucky enough to have a wealth of material to work with and the excellent research abilities of Peace Corps Volunteer Kay Clifford.
Recognizing the speech kicks off a full year of celebrations around the country. Unfortunately the exhibit was only up for two months, but you can find most of the information online.

Have a Carmel Mocha on Us
John was approached by George Jacobs to assist in creating a concept for a proposed up-scale coffee shop in downtown Midland. George imagined a cafe with artists working in mini-studios right in the coffee shop.
Inspiration came from the local timber industry of the 19th century and the use of wood/trees as a renewable resource.

Growing a New Identity is Hard Work
Good Design Group teamed with Gene Ullery-Smith to provide the West Midland Family Center with a new logo and identity, pro-bono. The original tree logo had served the family center well for years, but they were ready for something new. Gene and John conducted multiple sessions with the WMFC’s team and provided a number of options for a new logo and identity.
As yet unrealized.

Sex, Gender & Identity: Traveling Exhibit Concept
Sex, Gender & Identity is the first of Good Design Group’s "Sprouts" – our self-initiated exhibits. Currently in development, this traveling exhibit’s goal is to introduce visitors to the wide spectrum of individuals who do not follow traditional gender and sex rules and roles. Working with the LGBT community, Good Design Group has developed a concept for this mush needed exhibit.
Stay tuned, or let us know if you’re interested in helping us grow this concept into a realized educational piece.

Andrew J. Blackbird Museum Concept
The Andrew J. Blackbird Museum approached Good Design Group after seeing our work for the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society. The museum has a large collection of Native American arts and crafts and limited space to display them. Housed in the old post office and home of Chief Andrew J. Blackbird, the museum needed a solution to make the most of their compact space.
The chosen concept creates an intimate organic space. The gallery is divided into a permanent place to tell the remarkable story of Chief Blackbird and a large area to stage temporary exhibits featuring the diverse collection of objects.
As yet unrealized.

How to Exhibit Science Half a World Away
Good Design Group teamed with Design Craftsmen to create a large number of science exhibits for Discovery City in Cairo. The exhibits were largely based on engineered projects Design Craftsmen had previously produced. The challenge was to create a common look between these disparate elements and make sure that they could be shipped thousands of miles to another continent.
Good Design Group created an exhibit system with rails and platforms inspired by the unique architecture of the museum complex. Phase I and II were completed in 2006 and Phase III in 2007. Red Road Design created the graphics and video.
